Standard naming method for solder pads in circuit board factories

In PCB design, we must design pads, through holes and so on. These pads and holes require a standardized naming method so that they can be easily identified when viewed. Today, I will share the standardized naming method of PCB factory. Each company will be different. The PCB design director will make the naming method. All PCB design engineers below will make it according to this standard.

1. Through-hole pad

Naming format: THC (R, O) 90x60d40x20

Description: THC represents through hole, THR represents rectangular pad (square is the same as width), and THO is elliptical pad.

90x60 stands for 90mil in length and 60mil in width. If it's a circle, just write a number.
D40x20 represents a hole with a diameter of 40 mil and a width of 20 mil.

Another is THC (O) N, followed by an N (NTH) to represent the non-metallic hole pad.

2. Surface mount pad

Naming format: SMDC (R, O) 90x60

Description: This is similar to the naming method of through-hole pad. C stands for circle, such as MARK point is circular, R stands for rectangle, which is the most, O stands for ellipse.

The rear 90x60 is the length and width.

These surface-mounted components generally refer to the front pad, which is commonly used in packaging. If there is a special package to be placed on the opposite side, then add a _b, such as SMDC90X60_b, to represent the pad placed on the opposite side.

3,Via

Naming format: VIA40d20

Explanation: You should also be able to guess what this means. This is a hole with an outer diameter of 40 mil and an inner diameter of 20 mil. Pass holes are not as complex as pads, as long as a format is available, the main setting of external and internal diameters can be.

Another thing to note is that if we use millimeter as a unit, there may be decimal points, if decimal points, we can use R instead. For example, THC2r5x1d1r2x0r6, which represents an elliptical through-hole pad with an outer diameter of 2.5mm, a width of 1mm, an inner diameter of 1.2mm and a width of 0.6mm.

Through such standardization, each person in a company can use this format to design the pad, which can form a standardized pad library. Once established, everyone can call it. If we don't do standardized design, everyone randomly named, they do not know what size the name of the pad represents, but also need to open to see it. Needless to say, when someone else calls your pad, you certainly don't know what the name of the pad you wrote means.

Let's show you the name of a pad: RX0_85Y1_80T. Who knows the size of the pad? It's not that I definitely don't know what it means. But it may also be a company's standard pad name, but you don't know how to name it.
